Emotion: Region Level

Electrical stimulation studies in human have been reviewed in Ervin & Martin (1986) for 8 emotions postulated to be basic by Plutchick (1980) (anger, fear, joy, sadness, disgust, acceptance, anticipation, surprise). Emotions such as rage, fear, distress or curiosity/expectancy can be elicited by electrical stimulation of subcortical structures. In Human, for example, central gray stimulation may elicit fear/uncertainty, lateral hypothalamic stimulation may elicit euphoria while fear and rage can be elicited by amygdala stimulation.
